COVID 19 Series #3 – Healthcare Economics – Understanding the New Normal
This educational session will be presented in an interview format. The focus will be on cardiovascular patients, as this group is especially vulnerable in this time of COVID 19 due to their underlying heart disease. For the duration of the public health emergency, Medicare covers a selection of services, including regular office visits, device checks, and disease management when performed remotely.
Medicare has revised major policies to make it easier to perform and document these newly covered services. However, billing for the services is not intuitive and the applicable standards have changed multiple times the past recent weeks.
In this program, Jim Collins will explain the current standards specifically for:
• Office visits via telehealth
• Audio-only remote patient encounters
• Modifiers, places of service, co-insurance, HIPAA exceptions
• Virtual check-ins and e-visits
• Legacy service options: prolonged visits, principal care management, remote monitoring
